A crisis without end: Burkina Faso

Author: Chiara Merlin

Country: Italy

Summary

Burkina Faso has been at the centre of instability in the sub-Saharan belt of North Africa for years now. Rampant poverty and the scarcity of primary resources makes Burkina Faso one of the most backward and poorest countries in the world. This dangerous situation for all sections of the population leads to massive emigration to neighbouring states if not to Europe. The UNHCR is calling for the reception of these immigrants to continue, applying the principle of non-refoulement.
