In Sierra Leone: Minister of planning signs an Agreement worth $USD30 Million with USAID.

The Minister of planning and USAID-Sierra Leone Country Representative, Nancy Godfrey on September 7 2022 sealed an agreement worth $USD30 Million with USAID.


The Minister of Planning and Economic Development, Dr Francis Kai-Kai with the USAID-Sierra Leone Country Representative, Nancy Godfrey and her Team signed an overall agreement of 30 Million United States Dollars to enhance Sierra Leone’s Economic standard.


The meeting was held to discuss the overall review of the USAID’s assistance and status of interventions in their various sectors of operation and to expand the scope of the Development Objective Assistance Agreement (DOAG) and to development objective that reflects the United States Government’s strategy for supporting Sierra Leone’s economic growth with an increase in the ceiling of the overall agreement from $USD 17 Million to $USD 30 Million.


In her statement, Nancy Godfrey said the grant would include $USD 6 Million to support Sierra Leone in maintaining its history of peaceful elections by engaging private citizens, civil society, and the media in electoral process oversight, as well as constructive and peaceful dialogue.


She disclose the support would also bolster the resilience of persons with disabilities and the effect of climate change; and also to support the World Food Program’s (WFP) lean season food security assistance and school feeding.


According to the Minister Kai-Kai he expressed his appreciation to USAID for their continued support to the Government of Sierra Leone and under the leadership of His Excellency President Dr Julius Maada Bio and New Direction Agenda.


He said it was important for the government to partner with them, adding that the meeting was enssential for the government to understand the work of USAID and appreciate their long-term sustainable development activities in the health, democracy and governance, energy, and private sector investment.


He said the government will continue looking to its long-standing relationship with the USAID and other development partners. He said the meeting was an opportunity for he to understand the work of USAID in the country.


In his final speech the Minister confidently assured USAID of the government’s commitment to their overall support in Sierra Leone.
