The Filipino migration, characterized by the vast number of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs), has been a prominent phenomenon with a significant impact on both the Philippines and host countries. This article explores the multifaceted reasons behind why many Filipinos choose to work abroad. Drawing on historical, economic, and societal factors, it examines how the promise of better economic opportunities, income disparities, and poverty alleviation drive this migration. Additionally, the pursuit of education, skill development, and exposure to global experiences contribute to the appeal of working abroad. Moreover, political and social instability and the deeply ingrained family-oriented culture play crucial roles in shaping this decision.
